Snow Fall

As the snow falls I smell the frosty air and listen to the silence. I was driving to Milwaukee and I rolled down my window and turned down the radio. The highway sounds of a snow fall are of splashing, snow plows and occasionally the muffling quiet.

When the kids were young, we lived on Main Street. When the snow fell and traffic gave way to evening, we would make snow angels in the middle of the street. That sound of a snow fall will always take me back to those days. We couldn't wait to go sledding. My sledding days were over when my children didn't need me anymore. They were quite safe on their own. I would often wait in the car until they were cold and wet and wanted to go home. Or I could run an errand or two and come back, timing it so that they were ready for the warm car.

Snow is fun. Kids hope the schools are closed and are up even earlier than on a school day to watch for closings on t.v. Moms search for mittens, snow suits, hats and scarves. And she really makes hot chocolate for when they come inside.
